Elsevier’s Resources are Widely Used
Elsevier's multidisciplinary science journals and books are widely used by students and staff at the University of Turku. A review of Elsevier's database usage figures shows the three most used Elsevier journals and books and usage of the abstract and citation database Scopus at the University of Turku.
ScienceDirect
Elsevier’s ScienceDirect Freedom Collection is an extensive multidisciplinary scientific journal collection. It is one of the leading sources especially for scientific, technical and medical research. University of Turku staff and students have access to the journals included in the database since the year 1995. The library has also acquired books to be read on the same platform. In addition to the purchased resources, there are also open access journals and books.
In 2022 the use of the ScienceDirect database in University of Turku centred specifically on medicine and science but social sciences and economics were well represented, too.

Scopus
Scopus is Elsevier’s abstract and citation database launched in 2004. The database covers around 35 000 peer reviewed journal titles from thousands of publishers. In Scopus the searches concentrated in University of Turku in 2022 partly on the same disciplines as the usage in ScienceDirect but in slightly different order.

Nearly 75 % of the searches focused on documents. Almost every fifth search was about authors. Other ways of searching were used notably less.
