Feeniks Library preparing for upcoming relocations
Preparations are underway at the Feeniks Library of the University of Turku for a renovation currently being planned, along with relocations and the closure of the library during the autumn term. The cultural materials located in the Library's collections will be moved to temporary facilities and will be unavailable during the move. The language collections will be moved from Feeniks to the Arcanum Library in June.
A renovation of the Feeniks Library is being planned and the preparations for the move of the cultural materials, i.e. the legal deposit collection, located in the basement floors of the Library will start in autumn. The Feeniks Library will be closed to customers during the autumn term of 2026.
– The move and its preparation will take several months, as there are over 20 shelf-kilometres of materials to be moved. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to library customers by the temporary unavailability of materials, says Head of Library Services Merja Himanka.
Cultural materials and Feeniks Library facilities will remain in normal use for the time being
The facilities and equipment at the Feeniks Library can continue to be used as normal for the time being. The materials in the Library's closed storage will also remain available and can be reserved by customers. However, the relocation of materials within the library's public areas may cause disturbances.
The Library will provide more detailed information on the closure timetable, its impacts, and the availability of cultural materials at the temporary facilities.
The language collections moved to Arcanum Library in June
The language collections currently located at the Feeniks Library will be moved to the Arcanum Library in June, from where they can be borrowed at the latest in August. There may be some challenges in locating materials until the signs have been updated.
More detailed information about the moving schedule and any interruptions to material availability will be provided later in the spring.
Services after Feeniks Library closes
After the Feeniks Library closes, the other library units on the Turku campus are open normally. All library units have study spaces available for users.
– The Library offers versatile spaces in all the units on the Turku campus, and, for example, there is a cultural material work station available at the Arcanum Library, Himanka advises.
The newspapers and ephemera belonging to the Library's cultural material collection at the Raisio unit are available normally.
If the material you are looking for is not available in the Turku University Library, customers can use Åbo Akademi University Library and its legal deposit collection, located right next to the campus.
