Doctoral programs within the new FiDPEL

As has been previously informed, FiDPEL will continue its activities with a new kind of model. As FiDPEL used to be a doctoral program of its own, the new FiDPEL is a network of doctoral programs. The national reform of doctoral training in Finland directs universities to take the responsibility of resourcing of their own doctoral training. Each doctoral candidate now belongs to the graduate school and doctoral program of their own university. FiDPEL will continue its existence as a network of doctoral programs. The doctoral programs in the network are:

From the University of Turku
• Doctoral Programme on Educational Policy, Lifelong Learning and Comparative Education Research (KEVEKO)
• Doctoral Programme on Learning, Teaching and Learning Environments Research (OPPI)
From the University of Helsinki
• Doctoral Programme of Psychology, Learning and Communication (PSYCo)
• Doctoral Programme of School, Education, Society and Culture (SEDUCE)
From the University of Oulu
• Human Sciences Doctoral Programme (EUDA-DP)
From the University of Eastern Finland
• Life Course in Context Doctoral Programme (LCC)
• Doctoral Programme of Educational Sciences in Interdisciplinary Context
From the University of Tampere
• Doctoral Programme of Education and Society
From the University of Jyväskylä
• Doctoral School in Education
If you are uncertain of your own doctoral program, please contact your own faculty and check which is the one that you belong to. Note that paid positions granted before the reform are still valid. If you have been granted a paid position, this does not disappear anywhere. However, your contract is to your own university which is responsible of your employment. Thus, also the maternity leaves and like have to be communicated to your own university.

Travel grants in the subprogrammes for the last time

There is or have been calls for travel grants in subprogrammes during the autumn. One possible and also recommended target is the annual Finnish Educational Research Association (FERA) Conference on Educational Research. The conference is held in Jyväskylä, 21–22 November, 2013. The programme will include parallel paper sessions, methodological workshops and pre-conference seminars in which educational research can be presented in English, Swedish or Finnish. The deadline for abstract submission is 1st October. Please visit the conference website and get acquainted to the programme.

The travel grants appropriated now are the last ones for the subprogrammes. They will no longer allow travel grants next year. In the future, doctoral candidates can apply for travel grants i.g. from their own universities and faculties.

A national Facebook group for all doctoral candidates

There is now a Facebook group for all doctoral candidates in Finland. It might be a good place to interact, network and collaborate with other doctoral candidates all over Finland. You can find the group in https://www.facebook.com/groups/1419639641582078/
