Language collections moving from Feeniks Library to Arcanum Library - service and material availability disruptions starting 1 June 2026
The language subject collections will be moved from Feeniks Library to Arcanum Library in June. Due to the move, Arcanum Library will be partially closed from 1 June to 2 August 2026, and access to Feeniks Library premises will be limited in June. The relocations will also cause temporary disruptions to the availability of materials.
Due to the planned renovation of the Feeniks Library, the language collections currently located in Feeniks will be relocated to the Arcanum Library in June.
Impact of the move on the availability of materials
- Materials in the general collections located in Arcanum Library, as well as those transferring from Feeniks, will be unavailable 1–21 June.
- Course books in the collections that are already in Arcanum Library, as well as those transferring from Feeniks, will be unavailable 1–3 June.
- Reservations for materials at Arcanum Library can be made again after Midsummer, either in Volter or by contacting the library at library@utu.fi. Reserved items will be delivered from Midsummer until the end of July to Feeniks Library, where they can be borrowed once you have received an arrival notice. Please note that processing of reservations may be delayed during the summer.
- General collection materials will have an extended summer loan period from 4 May. Course books will be available for summer loan from 15 May. The due date for summer loans is Thu 13 August.
From August, the language collections will be located in Arcanum Library. Some of Arcanum Library's collections have been moved to different shelving within the library. You can check the exact shelf location in the Volter database and on the end-of-shelf signs, or ask library staff at the Arcanum Library service desk or by emailing library@utu.fi. We are happy to help!
Impact of the move on opening hours and facilities at Arcanum Library and Feeniks Library
Arcanum Library
- The library will be fully closed on 1–3 June and 19 June–2 August, except for the entrance lobby on the 1st floor and the student study area on the 1st floor.
- The library will be open with restricted services on 4–18 June. During this period:
- only course books can be borrowed
- entry is possible with a University of Turku access card on weekdays 8.00–16.00
- the library cannot be used for self-service in the evenings or at weekends
- all other library areas are out of use, except for the course book area
- access is via the main entrance of Arcanum, through the lobby.
- The library will reopen fully to customers on Monday 3 August, with shortened summer opening hours.
Feeniks Library
- Customer service will be open throughout the summer in accordance with the summer opening hours.
- There will be interruptions in the use of facilities and equipment on 1–12 June:
- the 3rd floor will be out of use
- reading seats, group study rooms and other student spaces will be available only to a limited extent
- use of the library's legal deposit workstations and microfilm equipment will be restricted.
There will be noise and other disruption in the library premises. We recommend borrowing materials in May where possible and using the student study areas at Teutori, Calonia, Turku School of Economics Library or Educarium Library. Libraries have shortened summer opening hours during the summer.
Normal opening hours at all library locations will resume on Mon 31 August 2026.
Please follow updates on the library's relocations webpage, where we will announce which areas of Feeniks Library are closed and any possible closure days or other service disruptions.
