The Data Management Plan (DMP) is a prerequisite for the payment of funding by the Research Council of Finland
The submission of a Data Management Plan (DMP) is a prerequisite for the release of funding from the Research Council of Finland. Researchers must submit the plan in two stages, with the final version due within eight weeks of the funding decision.
Once you receive a positive funding decision, you must submit a Data Management Plan (DMP) to the Research Council of Finland. Your university and the site of research will also commit to the plan's contents.
The Data Management Plan is submitted in two stages. In the application phase, you provide a brief description of data management. Following a positive funding decision, you, as the project’s principal investigator, are required to submit the full Data Management Plan, which is also committed to by your university and the site of research. This must be submitted to the Research Council of Finland within eight (8) weeks of receiving the decision.
Preparing a data management plan
Upon receiving the positive funding decision, draft the initial version of the full Data Management Plan. The Research Council of Finland recommends using the DMPTuuli tool for this purpose. Send this draft for feedback to openutu@utu.fi. Experts from the library, IT services, legal services, and research services will provide comments and assist in the preparation of the plan as needed.
After receiving feedback, attach the Data Management Plan to the Research Council of Finland’s SARA system when accepting the funding. Submission of the plan to the SARA system is essential for the release of funding. It is also recommended to send the commented plan to a representative of the site of research to ensure that the unit receiving the funding commits to the matters described in the plan.
If you are the leader of a consortium, submit a single Data Management Plan on behalf of the consortium to the SARA system when accepting the funding. Before this, however, the data management plans of consortium members must be approved by each member's organization’s data support services. Additionally, subprojects will confirm their funding in the SARA system once the consortium’s principal investigator has submitted the Data Management Plan in the system.
