Biography

I am doctoral researcher at the Department of Comparative Literature.

My doctoral dissertation is part of the “Comics and Migration. Belonging, Narration, Activism” project (2018–2020), which was funded by the Kone Foundation. Previously, I also worked as the co-coordinator of the Nordic-Baltic network ”Comics and Society. Research, Art, and Cultural Politics” (2019–2021).

Research

I am interested in societal, ethical, and political dimensions of comics. In my dissertation, I explore depictions of migration in contemporary German comics from the perspective of human rights and narration.

In addition to migration narratives, my research has focused on feminist critique, activism, questions of identity, empathy as well as representations of sex and sexuality in comics. I have specialized  in German and Finnish comics.
