I'm a PhD candidate in the Doctoral programme in history, culture and arts studies (Juno) at the University of Turku, and I'm doing my doctoral research at the department of gender studies. I graduated (MA) in gender studies at the University of Turku in 2017. My MA thesis examined the ways in which contemporary yoga is gendered and analysed feminine yoga as an embodied method of empowerment. My doctoral research project is an ethnographic study of feminine or women-oriented spirituality. I explore how the themes of women's empowerment and societal change are addressed in the field of contemporary holistic spirituality, and what kinds of intersections and tensions arise between spirituality and feminism. In addition to being a researcher I also work as a yoga teacher.
