Biography

I received my PhD degree in geography in 2016. In my PhD thesis, I studied water quality and especially underwater light conditions in the Finnish coastal waters. My study focused on the spatio-temporal variability in the water transparency dynamics. The work was based on field measurements conducted mainly in the south-western Finnish archipelago.

Currently, I am working in an EU funded research project called BONUS BASMATI (i.e. Baltic Sea Maritime Spatial Planning for Sustainable Ecosystem Services ). The project investigates practises related to Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) in the Baltic Sea countries. My main duties include communication and dissemination tasks as well as research in a case study, which investigates stakeholder involvement in MSP. My work in BONUS BASMATI includes two research visit periods at project partner organisations: in the spring of 2019, I will stay three months at Nordregio research institute in Sweden to collaborate on topics related to stakeholder integration, and in the autumn of 2018, I visited IOW in Germany (3 months) to work with issues related to the data needs in MSP.

Teaching

In the spring of 2019, I will be teaching in "MAAN7364 Practicals in Fluvial and Coastal Environments, 5 op". In addition, BONUS BASMATI project organises a PhD course on "Maritime Spatial Planning processes in Baltic Sea countries".

Research

My current research in the BONUS BASMATI project investigates stakeholder involvement in Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP). The case study focuses on business perspective, especially regarding the maritime transport and marine tourism sectors.
