Biography

I´m a plant ecologist specialised in nature conservation and the values and meanings associated with nature. My research focuses on semi-natural grasslands, but also on urban nature and young anthropogenic habitats, such as roadsides and power line clearings. The main goal of my research is to understanding the possibilities for and limits to protecting biodiversity in these kinds of environments, and to produce practical solutions for this.

Since 2017 I´ve also lead the floristic survey of Turku, which aims to list and chart all vascular plant species currently occurring in the city of Turku.

My research has been funded by The Kone Foundation (Koneen säätiö), The Finnish Foundation for Nature Conservation (Suomen luonnonsuojelun säätiö) and the Turku University Foundation (Turun yliopistosäätiö).
