Areas of expertise
MSSc Mari Lehto is a doctoral candidate of Media studies in the University of Turku. Currently, she works as a project researcher in Intimacy in Data-Driven Culture (IDA) project that is funded by The Strategic Research Council (SRC) at the Academy of Finland.
Lehto’s article-based dissertation examines how motherhood is lived, experienced, and felt through social media in the 2010s in Finland. It is a multimethod study that critically dismantles the relationship between social media and parenthood, built around critical studies of digital media, motherhood, and affect. The objective is to produce a reflexive analysis of multiple modes of affective engagement and to explore the cultural and political underpinnings of contemporary motherhood in social media.
Her main research interests include social media, social media influencers and online parenting culture.
