Technology Fund

Turku University Foundation’s Technology Fund uses its income and capital to support the research and teaching of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Turku.

Donations

Turku University Foundation accepts donations for the fields of technology. Donations are mainly used to finance thesis work at Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral level. The fund is managed by the Board of the Turku University Foundation and is part of the funds managed by the Foundation.

How to donate

A company, organisation or individual can make a general donation to the Turku University Foundation to support the field of technology or choose a specific technical field. The donor fills in the deed of donation form, sends it to the Foundation and pays the amount of the donation to the account indicated in form.

The donation is gratuitous and cannot be addressed to a pre-designated person. The Foundation will direct the donation to either a specific area of technology or to support the field of technology in general, as determined by the donor.

When the donation is directed to thesis work, 80% of the donations received will be distributed as thesis grants, 10% will be allocated to support technology research and education at the University of Turku and the remaining 10% is allocated to the Turku University Foundation to cover the administrative costs. A typical donation for a thesis grant is €15 000, awarded on the recommendation of the Technology Fund's Board and the relevant professor in the field of technology.

Thesis donations are an easy and administratively light way for the donor to support research and education in the field of technology, because the grant recipient is not employed by the company. The grant is tax-free for the recipient and the company/entity can deduct the donation from its own tax bill if the donation is between €850 and €50 000. The Turku University Foundation will provide the donor with the necessary certificate for the tax deduction. Donations made by private individuals are not tax deductible.

You can fill in and print a deed of donation below and send it electronically to tysaatio@utu.fi. You can also deliver the deed of donation directly to the office of the University Foundation (The University Foundation, Henrikinkatu 10, 20014 University of Turku).

Fill in the deed of donation here.

If your organisation needs an invoice, against which the donation will be paid, we ask you to enter the invoice details in the deed of donation.

Donation can also be used to establish a new dedicated fund, which will implement the aims and objectives of the Technology Fund. You can contact the University Foundation, if you need more information on this.

Thesis Grants

A grant from the Technology Fund is an alternative way for students to get funding for a thesis commissioned by a company/community. The grant recipient is not employed by the company and the intellectual property rights (IPR) remain with the student unless otherwise agreed.

Master's Thesis Grants

Typically, a grant of €12 000 is awarded to a student for a thesis for a period of 6 months, but the amount and duration of the grant may vary.

Doctoral Thesis Grants

The fund also provides grants for doctoral research. The grant is intended as a working grant for researchers working on their doctoral thesis.
