Guidelines for the Buddy Programme

1. The aim of the Buddy Programme is to assist international staff members and their partners (later mentioned as newcomers) to settle down in Turku and getting started at the University of Turku.

2. The programme is voluntary, and newcomers and their buddies can themselves decide of their communication styles and meetings.

3. Buddy is available to assist through the programme in the first three months after the newcomer’s arrival to Finland.

4. The buddy is not responsible for the newcomer’s matters related to work, authority or practical issues.

5. The buddy has no financial obligations towards the newcomer. Accommodation, authority costs and recreational activities are paid by the newcomers themselves.

6. The well-being, safety and cultural differences of both parties must always be taken into consideration.

7. If problems or questions arise, the buddy and newcomer should contact the programme organizers or the HR contact person.

8. Written feedback can be collected from the participants afterwards. This will help to develop and improve the programme.
