Forest areas near Kurjenrahka National Park
The first forest areas acquired in 2022 by the Nature2100 Fund are situated near Kurjenrahka. A substantial donation for the first acquisition of the areas was received from Doctor of Laws Heidi Andersson. Since then, the area has expanded, including small ponds and some fields, now covering a total of 25 hectares.
The University develops the areas based on continuous research. A baseline survey, a management plan, and a vision for the future for the areas have been created.

- The largest of the two forest areas acquired by the fund, covering 20 hectares, is located on the north-eastern side of Lammenrahka, which is situated north of Lake Savojärvi. To the south, the area is bordered by the Finnish Defence Forces’ area, which is a narrow strip of land between the forest area and the national park. On the northern edge it is bordered by the Ruusinrahka marshland. The forest area contains clear-cut areas, saplings, and some slightly more mature forest compartments.
- The fund owns approximately one hectare of land between the main forest area and the national park, serving as a connective link between the two. It is divided into a forest patch and an open field.
- The southernmost of the three areas is surrounded by the national park and is located between Lammenrahka and Valkiaissaarenrahka. It includes young saplings, nearly three hectares of field, and three small lakes.
