Generative AI as a Transformer of Working Life
From Anxiety to Adoption and Ethically Sustainable High-Performance Use
Description: This research project examines the role of generative AI in the transformation of working life and the factors influencing its adoption and sustainable use. AI is reshaping work processes, job content, and organizational practices at an unprecedented pace, creating both significant opportunities and new challenges for employees, organizations, and society. The project focuses particularly on how employees can be supported in transitioning from uncertainty and anxiety related to AI toward smooth adoption and ethically sustainable, high-performance use.
The study integrates perspectives from technology adoption research, psychology, and work-life studies, and develops a novel approach to understanding the adoption of AI technologies. At its core are employees’ metacognitive skills, learning orientations, and their experiences and attitudes toward AI. The project utilizes both a large-scale national survey dataset and sector-specific qualitative interview data to identify key factors influencing the implementation and use of AI across different work environments.
The project will generate new scientific knowledge on AI adoption, as well as practical tools and models to help organizations promote responsible and effective use of AI and to facilitate the changes that generative AI brings to work practices.
