Applying for the recognition of prior learning (RPL)
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) refers to approving previous studies, internships, work experience or other competence as part of the compulsory or optional studies of a degree programme. RPL is sometimes also referred to as credit transfer.
Students can apply for the recognition of studies completed at another Finnish or foreign higher education institution. Recognised previously completed studies can either be included in the student's degree or used to substitute for studies of corresponding level in the student's degree programme curriculum. Students can also apply to have learning acquired outside the formal education system recognised and accredited, and use it to substitute for studies in their degree programme curriculum.
The links below take you to instructions related to particular stages of the RPL application process and different types of applications.
If you have any questions about RPL applications, please contact your faculty's office for student and academic affairs or the Centre for Language and Communication Studies (kievi@utu.fi).
NB! Doctoral and licentiate students should apply for the recognition of prior learning using a UTUForms application form.
