FM Eemeli Eronen defends the dissertation in Physics titled “Data-driven Spectrum Interpretation in the Liquid Phase” at the University of Turku on 13 June 2026 at 12.00 (University of Turku, Quantum, Auditorium, Turku).

Opponent: Associate Professor Hannu-Pekka Komsa (University of Oulu)

Custos: Professor Edwin Kukk (University of Turku)

Summary of the Doctoral Dissertation:

Liquids consist of interacting atoms and molecules. The arrangement, or structure, of these particles is difficult to observe directly. For this reason, liquids are commonly studied by measuring how they interact with light and other forms of electromagnetic radiation. However, it remains unclear what structural information can and cannot be extracted from such measurements. This thesis presents a new data-driven framework to address this problem and provides evidence for a possible general principle governing how structure is reflected in these measurements.
