Grant for doctoral research in nutrition and biomedicine

We are looking for a doctoral researcher to a fixed-term, grant-based position. The scientific fields are nutrition and biomedicine. The research involves study on metabolism and diet within clinical trial context in the Early Nutrition and Health research group (https://sites.utu.fi/nutritionresearch/en/). The project is led by Professor Kirsi Laitinen, Institute of Biomedicine and Functional Foods Forum, Faculty of Medicine, University of Turku, Turku, Finland. The project is collaboration with Tyks (Turku University Central Hospital).

The applicant should hold an MSc in an applicable field e.g., but not limited to, nutrition, biomedicine, medicine, biochemistry and molecular biology. Know-how on the methods in biostatistics and bioinformatics are an asset. Excellent academic performance and knowledge of written and spoken English are required. In addition, when acquiring his or her degree or otherwise, an applicant is required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan. The applicants who are finalizing their MSc degree will be considered, too. The researcher on a grant is expected to enroll in the PhD program at the University of Turku in the next possible call. A grant for 5 months will be awarded. The grant is 2300 € per month. The grant period starts on 1 June 2023 (or as agreed). The applicant should familiarize with pension insurance (MYEL) and taxation regulations for recipients of scientific grants and scholarships as these may affect the net amount of the grant.

The successful applicant is expected to formulate a study plan and to demonstrate activity in applying personal research grants for PhD studies.

The research team is committed to supporting the researcher beyond the grant period (about 1 year additional funding is currently available). The University will offer the selected applicant the needed equipment and working space at the Faculty of Medicine.
