Academy of Finland Funding and Data Management Plan – University of Turku Process After a Positive Funding Decision

From Academy of Finland September call 2020, University of Turku process for funding approval and submitting and reviewing Data Management Plan has confronted major changes.

Academy of Finland has a new process concerning Data management plans (DMP). Submitting the actual DMP will occur after a positive funding decision. The actual DMP shall be submitted in the online services in connection with applicant approval but before the approval of the representative of the site of research. The funds can be paid only after the applicant and the representative of the site of research have the accepted the DMP.

In the DMP the responsible head of project and site of research commits to ensuring that the DMP can be implemented at the site of research, and that the measures to be taken comply with good data management practice. Academy of Finland will follow how the data management measures will be implemented in the research project and when reporting the Academy of Finland about the project, researcher must tell how the data or parts of it has been published.

University of Turku process after positive funding decision – what should the head of department/Director know?

Data Specialists at the University of Turku Library will contact personally researchers who get a positive funding decision in Academy of Finland September call and give instructions and guidance about the process of making a DMP and its approval.

The responsible Head of Project (i.e. researcher) ensures that after received a positive funding decision he/she will make DMP (draft) in three (3) weeks time and send it to our research service support team: openutu@utu.fi for comments.

According to good practice the responsible head of project should send the DMP also to the site of research (normally head of department/director) in good time before the deadline so the site of research can engage the obligations emerge from the DMP.

After the researcher and the research support service team has completed the plan, the applicant will send the DMP to the

  3. and submit it to the SARA-system.

From SARA-system the information about submitted, new DMP goes to the head of department/Director.

The head of department/Director will approve the DMP in the online service SARA in connection with applicant approval.

The responsible Head of Project (i.e. researcher) ensures that after received the letter from specialists/ after received a positive funding decision he/she will make DMP in three (3) weeks time and send it to our research service support team: openutu@utu.fi for comments. We recommend to use the DMPTuuli tool to draft the data management plan.

The specialists at our research support service team (specialists from library, IT-services, legal services, research support) will review the DMP and comment and help the researcher to write the DMP.
