Adjunct Professor Henrik Elonheimo to represent Finland in international violence research forum

​Adjunct Professor Henrik Elonheimo has been invited as a representative of Finland for an international criminology meeting in Stockholm in August 20-23, 2017. The theme of the event is "Mental Illness and Violence: A Global Perspective on Identification and Prevention”. The gathering is coordinated by Lia Ahonen, Visiting Professor in University of Pittsburgh (US) and Assistant Professor of Criminology, Örebro University (Sweden).

The forum gathers together prominent criminologists from various countries to discuss joint research needs and criminal policy. The event also aims at consolidating an international research network. The questions addressed include: What do especially longitudinal studies tell us about the connections between mental health problems and violence? How does the criminal justice system in respective countries deal with offenders’ mental health problems? How should research and criminal policy be developed to address these questions?

Besides Finland and Sweden, the participating countries are the US, the UK, and Canada. The participants are: Lia Ahonen (University of Pittsburg / Örebro), Ray Corrado (Simon Fraser University), Henrik Elonheimo (University of Turku), David Farrington (University of Cambridge), Seena Fazel (University of Oxford), Rolf Loeber (University of Pittsburg), Niklas Långström (Uppsala University), John Monahan (University of Virginia), Jeffrey Swanson (Duke University) ja Pamela Taylor (Cardiff University). The event is supported by The Swedish Foundation For Humanities and Social Sciences (Riksbankens Jubileumsfond).
