Alumni visits spur fruitful dialogue on career perspectives between graduates and current students.

Conceived by student clubs and the Department of Management of Turku School of Economics, the new Alumni Keynote Speakers lecture series, where former TSE students talk about their experiences at the forefront of business life, is an excellent example of productive co-operation.

"The alumni lectures offer students a chance to view their own experiences in the light of the topics presented by the guest speakers", says Maija Vähämäki, Lecturer, Management and Organisation.

She adds that alumni, in turn, benefit from the chance of seeing the School of Economics' current potential at first hand.

Alumni Keynote Speakers is being organised for the first time this spring. The student clubs of three units – Management and Organisation, Accounting and Finance, and Logistics – have been actively involved in the process.

"We have been responsible for advertising, marketing and establishing contact with the speakers", student Kati Nenonen is proud to report. "The cooperation with the different departments, and with the alumni, has been rewarding. The student clubs are also happy to help students planning their curriculum.“

According to Nenonen, guest speakers offer a practical approach and add variety to normal study routines: "They focus on processes rather than theories. Students get an idea of how companies actually work. We've chosen motivating speakers for this lecture series."

Although the lectures began only recently, the student clubs has already received positive feedback for their successful lobbying and educational politics. "Our aim was to facilitate interaction between the speaker and the audience", the organisers explain. "The lectures have inspired discussions that have continued outside the auditorium."
