ARWU: University of Turku among the Best 400 Universities

The University of Turku kept its strong position in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, which compares the top universities in the world.

​The global Academic Ranking of World Universities was published on 15 August 2015. Similar to previous years, the University of Turku was ranked among the 301–400 best universities.

– It is wonderful that the University of Turku has kept its position in ARWU, which is one of the oldest and most respected university rankings. Of course, our goal is to rise in the ranking, says Vice Rector of the University of Turku Kalle-Antti Suominen.

Of the Finnish universities, the University of Helsinki was ranked as 67th and the University of Oulu was also among the 301–400 best universities. Aalto University, the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Jyväskylä were placed in the 401–500 category. The Universities of Helsinki and Jyväskylä improved their ranking.

According to ARWU, eight of the best ten universities in the world are in the United States and Harvard University was at the top of the list. Like the previous years, the best universities in Europe were Cambridge (5th) and Oxford (10th). The best Nordic university was the University of Copenhagen (35th).

The ranking is compiled by the Jiao Tong University, which was placed in the 101–150 category in this year's ranking. The so-called Shanghai ranking has been published since 2003. There are over 10,000 universities in the world.
