The close collaboration between the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University in the field of drug development is expanding. Last year, the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University initiated several research projects with the renowned St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy. In a drug development symposium held on Tuesday 14 April, researchers from St. Petersburg were introduced to the research being conducted in Turku.

Professor Viktor Vainshtein from St. Petersburg spoke about the prolonged release of drug substances into the bloodstream.

On 14 April 2015, the Emerging Trends in Drug Development symposium was held at the University of Turku, where alongside 170 local researchers were 25 guests from the St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy.

– The purpose of this symposium is to introduce our guests from St. Petersburg to our research projects and research technologies, as well as the many collaboration possibilities that we can offer in the field of drug development. In return, they can tell us about their own work and research, says Scientific Director of BioCity Turku Jyrki Heino.

This research collaboration with the scientists from St. Petersburg dates back several years.

– But now the collaboration is really starting, as last we year we began our four joint research projects, and Åbo Akademi University is also heavily involved, notes Heino.
The symposium was arranged by BioCity Turku in collaboration with the University of Turku’s and Åbo Akademi University’s doctoral programmes in biosciences.
