The International May Day party programme included fishing, portrait photography, Twister and traditional Finnish May Day sweets.

Sonja Zahorska and Liliane Moraes were planning to taste Finnish foods and drinks in The Firs of May. They had heard that The First of May is a party for the workers and that you should go out to have a picnic.

The International Office of the University of Turku arranged a traditional May Day pre-party for exchange students and international tutors in the Mercatori hall of the Turku School of Economics on Monday 29 April. The First of May was celebrated in the rhythm of Finnish music and the participants tasted mead and doughnuts.

The most popular programme number was fishing, where one could catch May Day accessories and Moomin prizes. There was a queue for the fishing spot, because all the exchange students wanted to try their fishing luck.

The exchange students could memorialize themselves in a photography spot and get a funny May Day picture. The models put traditional black and white caps on their heads and some streamer on their shoulders.

The May Day celebration culminated when the winners of a photography contest were revealed. The International Office had arranged the contest on their facebook-pages, where exchange students had sent pictures related to their exchange.

The winner of the competition was Liliane Morales, whose picture got 300 likes. The second prize went to Helene Voyen, who got 150 likes with her picture. In addition, the International Office awarded  Nora Steinbach’s picture as their favourite one.

At the end of the party, everybody gathered together for a great group picture. The camera captured a bunch of happy faces.

Jonathan Loaiza caught badge, a balloon and a Moomin liquorice stick.
