14.04.2014

Are you interested in finding out whether the stereotypes about the Finnish people are true? What does a Karelian pastry taste like and how many of the 20 000 islands in the Turku archipelago can you visit? Find out in the International Summer School of the University of Turku!

The International Summer School is a unique combination of various lectures, social events and guidance on practical issues. It takes place from August 4 to August 29, 2014, in Turku, Finland.

Whether you are a university student, graduate, an international scholar or an expert, the International Summer School is aimed at anyone who is interested in the
Finnish language, culture and history.

The call for applications ends April 30, but those students who have received a place to study in an English Master’s Degree Programme have an extended application period.

Studies Balanced with an Active Social Programme

The International Summer School offers six modules and three courses, with topics
that range from the history of Finland to the Finnish stereotypes and social structure. In addition, there is a language course, Survival Finnish, which introduces the participants to the basics of the fascinating Finnish language.

Though the days are spent studying, evenings and weekends are dedicated to social gatherings and trips. The International Summer School organises a Social Programme, where participants are introduced to Finnish cultural activities, the city of Turku and its surroundings.

The programme includes trips in and around Turku, for example, to historical sites, museums and the archipelago. In addition, there is a chance to experience Finnish traditions and games, such as sauna and mölkky, and sample traditional Finnish food.
