03.06.2014

The City of Turku, the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, Turku University of Applied Sciences and the student unions of different institutions have signed the cooperation agreement “Ready, Study, Go Turku! (RSGT).

There are about 40 000 students studying at the six institutions of higher education in Turku and every fourth citizen is a student or an expert working at one of the universities. The cooperation aims at making this great potential of know-how and skills a factor that brings vitality to the region.

– In Turku, there is a particularly compact campus in the centre of the city which, with the cooperation, will conceptually cover the whole city. We want to see Turku as a city for students. The cooperation will also strengthen collaboration between different fields, says Vice Rector Riitta Pyykkö, who is responsible for education.

The goals of the cooperation:

  • Turku will become an even friendlier city for the students and experts with the public services that support the new students, researchers and experts in settling down in the region (Ready)
  • The proficiency of the students will be made part of the development of the city and the projects of different companies more systematically than before (Study)
  • the institutes of higher education will support their graduates in entering the working life or in becoming entrepreneurs in the Turku region by creating contacts between different parties (Go).

Ready, Study, Go Turku! is also one of the top three development projects of the Urban Policy of the Turku region in 2013–2015.
