The name of FiDPEL changes

The name of FiDPEL has been ”Kasvatuksen, koulutuksen ja oppimisen valtakunnallinen tohtoriohjelma KASVA / The Finnish Doctoral Programme in Education and Learning FiDPEL”. Now that that FiDPEL no longer is a doctoral programme, the board decided to change its name. From now on, the name of FiDPEL will be ”Kasvatustieteiden valtakunnallinen tohtorikoulutusverkosto KASVA / The Finnish doctoral training network on educational sciences KASVA”. The name will be updated to logo of KASVA as well.

Annual seminar in May

The next year’s annual seminar will be held in May 2014. The specific date will be confirmed soon, but the venue shall be the same as it was last spring, Kulttuurikeskus Sofia in Helsinki. The subprogramme DWRAE will be in charge of the scientific programme and the theme shall be ”Teoria ja käytäntö kasvatustieteellisessä tutkimuksessa – Theory and Practice in Educational Research”. For example following kinds of questions shall be handled:

  • How theory affects the educational practices and what theories get from the practices?
  • What kinds of research methodologies can combine theory and practice more productively?
  • Are we witnessing a re-discovering of practice or a “practice turn” as it is in many other social sciences?
  • What kinds of options do we have to discuss the relationship between theory and practice in a thesis?

More specific information concerning the seminar shall be distributed after the holiday season.

Searching for the new forms of activity

During the winter 2014 KASVA will organize a network meeting to gather together different actors of KASVA. Representatives from the universities and doctoral programmes are invited to take part in this meeting to discuss the activities of KASVA. The aim of the meeting is to concretize the activity forms of the new KASVA and also to search for new models for cooperation. If you have ideas or aspirations concerning KASVA, don’t hesitate to contact the coordinator and share your thoughts.
