Free open publishing continues for the present in Springer Nature and Taylor & Francis journals
Researchers at University of Turku can still publish their articles for free as open access in several Springer Nature and Taylor & Francis journals during 2025, even though the article quota under the agreement with FinELib runs out. The university aims to cover the Article Processing Charges (APCs) for the remainder of the year.
The open access article quota in the agreements between FinELib and Springer Nature and Taylor & Francis is limited and 2025 quota will run out.
Thanks to arrangements at University of Turku, authors can still publish their articles open access in many journals of these publishers free of charge even after this. According to current calculations, the funds allocated for this purpose may last until the end of the year, but there is no absolute certainty about that.
The publishing process for authors will function in the same way as before, and the right to open publishing applies to the same journals as in the FinELib agreement. When corresponding authors states their affiliation as University of Turku, they will not be charged an APC fee for an article published OA. The publishers will notify the library by email that the author has chosen open access publishing, and the author's affiliation will be verified by the library.
Journal title lists can be found on the FinELib website: Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis.
