Membership negotiations and the new name of KASVA: The FinEd Network

The board of KASVA Network gathered in the FERA Conference on Education 2014 (Kasvatustieteen päivät) in Oulu on November 20th, 2014.  The board discussed the reviving of the network and decided about a new name for the network: The Finnish Multidisciplinary Doctoral Training Network on Educational Sciences (FinEd) / Kasvatusalan valtakunnallinen monitieteinen tohtorikoulutusverkosto (FinEd).

The operational financing of the Academy of Finland to the KASVA/FinEd Network is coming to an end by the end of the year 2015. After that, the costs of the annual seminar and the salary costs of a part time (25 %) coordinator should be financed by a doctoral programme / faculty-specific membership fee of each member university. The promising membership negotiations will be continued in the next year and our aim is to finalise and sign the contract of new FinEd Network during the spring 2015. After this, also the members' e-mail list will be updated.

The travel grants of FinEd Network open in January-February 2015

In 2015, the FinEd Network opens a call for travel grants in the same way as in the year 2014.  The call will be opened at the end of January and it is primarily directed to the full time (financed by graduate school, doctoral programme or research projects) doctoral candidates of the member units of the FinEd Network. If there aren’t enough reasonable applications from full time candidates, also the applications of part time doctoral candidates are taken into account. The travel grants are awarded to conferences and other study visits abroad during the year 2015.

The annual seminar of the Network in Herrankukkaro, Rymättylä on 9.-10.6.2015

The FinEd network will continue arranging the annual seminars also under the new name. In 2015, the responsible unit of the planning of the seminar is the KAVE subprogramme of the old KASVA network organization (Subprogramme on Comparative Research on Educational Policy, Economy and Assessment, CREPEA/KAVE). The annual seminar will be organized in Herrankukkaro of Rymättylä on 9-10.6.2015. The keynote lecturer will be researcher Xavier Pons (University of East Paris Créteil and “Observatoire Sociologique du Changement”, Sciences Po, Paris). The theme of his lecture will be Comparative Education and Policy Studies on Transformations of the Governance of Education Systems in Europe. The themes and contents of the parallel sessions are formed according to the research areas of the participating doctoral candidates.
