More Humane Management Perspectives Presented in Turku Agile Day

The agile software development event gathered together IT professionals, students and international speakers.

Bjarte Bogsnes wants to renew traditional management.

​One of the most popular business speakers, Bjarte Bogsnes, spoke for new kind of management and presented the agile Beyond Budgeting management model that he has been developing.

According to Bogsnes, management has traditionally been rigid and rule-based and favoured the carrot and stick approach.

Future management needs to be autonomous, transparent and value-based in order to ensure the internal motivation of the employees.

– We need to change management, make it more human, Bogsnes stated.

A Skillful Tester Is Mentally Engaged and Critical

Other presentations included Aleksis Tulonen’s lecture How to Think Like an Exploratory Tester?

Tulonen is a Software Consultant for Comiq, a software testing company based in Helsinki.

According to Tulonen, who is one of the founding members of the International Society for Software Testing, a skillful tester is mentally engaged, responsible, creates by reacting to challenges and emphasises quality as well as communication skills.

As for communication skills, Tulonen considers it essential to be critical when discussing, questioning the other speaker’s intention and asking them what observation led them to their conclusion.

Turku Agile Day was organised at the University of Turku 12.–13.5. and it is the largest conference for agile software development methods in Finland.
