NIDE Takes University of Turku's Dentistry Expertise to the World
The joint education export company of the University of Turku and Planmeca has had a speedy start. Dental professionals from over ten different countries have participated in the training.

Nordic Institute of Dental Education (NIDE) is an education export company established by the University of Turku and Planmeca, one of the world's leading dental technology companies from Finland, providing continuing education to international dental professionals.
The company provides continuing education related to the rapidly developing technologies of dentistry and their utilisation in modern dental care.
‒ Courses related to 3D imaging and CAD/CAM technologies have particularly attracted a lot of interest. Participants have come from numerous countries around the world, the courses have been participated by dental professionals from Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, Finland, Lithuania, Norway, Denmark, Portugal, Sweden, and Zimbabwe, explains Jenni Pajunen, CEO of NIDE.
NIDE, established in the autumn of 2014, combines the dentistry competence of the University of Turku and the high technologies developed by Planmeca. In its sales and marketing, the company utilises the global contact networks in the field of dentistry of the University of Turku and Planmeca.
‒ For years, Planmeca has collaborated with universities from around the world, and, for a long time, the company had been searching for an academic partner for commencing shared education business activities. The long history, distinguished research and academic contacts are beneficial in education exportation, Pajunen says.
Participants Praise Combining Practice and Theory
The University of Turku grants ECTS points and course certificates for the participants of the continuing education. The participants' experiences have been positive.
‒ The participants are interested in thorough orientation that includes theoretical contents, practical guidance, and product training. Technology develops at an immense speed and there is demand for the education. So far, a course related to 3D imaging and diagnostics has been the most popular, Pajunen explains.
‒ I chose the CAD/CAM course of NIDE, as I wanted to obtain both theoretical knowledge as well as to carry out practical exercises in order to further strengthen my expertise in prosthetics. After the course, I was able to communicate better with the laboratory, select the correct material, and take full responsibility for my own work, explains Belgian dentist Iryna Chulkova.
‒ After participating in the 3D imaging and diagnostics course, I have been able to interpret images quickly and efficiently. This has been particularly beneficial in orthodontic cases. The utilisation of a virtual 3D model of the patient also makes my work easier, says Ivanka Obreshkova, a Bulgarian specialist in orthodontics.
