"Philosophical, Methodological and Pragmatic Approaches to Scientific Futures Research (3 cr)" postgraduate course in November 2015

​The "Philosophical, Methodological and Pragmatic Approaches to Scientific Futures Research (3 cr)" postgraduate course is suitable for doctoral candidates of different scientific fields and master students, who plan to start their doctoral studies.

The aim of the course is to explore a variety of sciences in the context of futures research and reinforce futures studies approaches and methodologies as part of scientific research.

Students are provided with tools of understanding the nature of futures research as a scientific discipline, it´s concepts and methods. Understanding futures knowledge and rules that validate scientific knowledge generation in the field is essential. Discussions about multiple ways of including futures research as a part of the dissertation are included in the course. There are lectures and students' presentations with expert and peer-peer discussions.

The course is organized by the Finland Futures Academy (FFA) as a part of the futures studies postgraduate programme (Finland Futures Research Centre at Turku School of Economics). Responsible teachers are Professor Markku Wilenius and Coordinator Sari Söderlund. Note that the research seminars offered by the FFA are available for postgraduate students in any scientific field at University of Turku.
