Professor Sven Modell visits the Department of Accounting and Finance on 24–26 October 2017.
Dr. Sven Modell is a Professor of Management Accounting at University of Manchester, UK. Prior to joining Manchester Business School in 2006, Sven Modell received his PhD in Business Administration from Lund University, Sweden in 1998, and held a Chair in Accounting at Stockholm University School of Business, Sweden. He has also held visiting positions at the Foundation for Research in Economics and Business Administration, Bergen, and Agder University College, Kristiansand, Norway, and Curtin University of Technology, Perth, and University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Currently Professor Modell is a Visiting Professor at Turku School of Economics, University of Turku.
Professor Modell’s current work is concentrated to the social, political and institutional aspects of management accounting and control, with particular emphasis on public sector organisations. Areas of particular interest include performance measurement and management, cost accounting and resource allocation practices. His research and teaching interests also include the development of mixed methods approaches, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, and how it may be applied in management accounting research.
During Modell’s visit, he will present his research paper titled “Rethinking performativity: a critical realist analysis of the role of accounting in performing corporate social responsibility” (co-authored by Max Baker, University of Sydney) at Department of Accounting and Finance’s research seminar on Tue 24 Oct at 11–13 as well as collaborate with faculty members. Prof. Modell will use the room 356 in the hallway of Department of Accounting and Finance.
