The QS World University Ranking placed the University of Turku as the top Finnish university of the universities outside the capital, right after the University of Helsinki and Aalto University. According to employers, the University of Turku is the best university in Finland for training new personnel.

According to employers, the University of Turku is the best university in Finland, and its student-to-faculty ratio was ranked 71st overall.

– We are still clearly the most significant scientific university outside the capital, and our international quality is also strong. The worldwide competition for the top university spots is tough, and we must continue to strive to make sure that our international visibility and impact remain strong, says Vice Rector Kalle-Antti Suominen.

For the ranking, QS collected information from 3539 universities and then ranked 891 of them in order. Their comparison criteria consist of academic reputation, reputation among employers for training new personnel, student-to-faculty ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio.

The University of Turku's strengths not only include employer reputation, but also student-to-faculty ratio and academic reputation. The ranking also highlighted the following disciplines from the University: Life Sciences and Medicine, Social Sciences and Management, and the Arts and Humanities.

– We have constantly improved our position when it comes to internationality and increasing the amount of international faculty, says Development Specialist Susanna Sutinen.

The University's reputation ranking was also most likely influenced by the collection of contact information.

– The units actively participated in the collection of contact information, and this way QS was able to receive up-to-date information on our reputation. This shows in our academic and employer reputation rankings, as we've done well in both categories, notes Sutinen.

The University of Turku placed 233rd in the worldwide ranking. The University of Jyväskylä placed 319th, the University of Eastern Finland placed 347th, Tampere University of Technology placed 356th, the University of Oulu placed 358th, and Åbo Akademi University placed in the 441-450 category.
