To celebrate its centenary, the Turku Finnish University Society has established a new science award for a scholar or a research group from Turku.

The purpose of the €50,000 Phoenix Science Award is to highlight the significance of science and encourage scientists towards research that creates new ideas.

– During its centenary celebration, the University Society wants to focus on essential matters and also look forward. What better way to honor tradition than to strenghten the status of education and science in the future? I hope that the Phoenix Science Award will inspire discussion about the state of research in Turku, but also concretely promote scientific work, says Chair of the University Society Riitta Monto.

The Turku Finnish University Society asks for nominations for the award from the University community. The award is open for nominations from all fields of science. You can submit your nomination by the 15th of August.

The Board of the University Society and selected experts will decide the winner of the award based on the nominations. The Phoenix Award will be handed to the winner in the University Society's centenary celebration at the Old Academy Building on the 3rd of November 2017.
