SUSMAT in Focus photography exhibition showcases sustainable materials research through the lens of researchers

Science and art meet in a unique photography exhibition opening at the University of Turku on Tuesday 18 March.

What do next generation materials and the technologies around them look like? How is everyday life like for a researcher working on sustainable materials?

The photography exhibition SUSMAT in Focus showcases scientifically significant work that is often invisible to the wide audience. The exhibition presents research on sustainable materials through the eyes of researchers working at its forefront.

The photographs of the exhibition have been taken by researchers from the University of Turku who participated in a photography course organised by the SUSMAT initiative. The course brought together researchers in chemistry, mechanical and material engineering, industrial engineering and management, and dentistry to learn about the visualization of science under the guidance of photographer Tiina Puputti

The opening of the exhibition will be held on Tuesday 18 March at 2 pm in the lobby of the Agora building at the University of Turku. The exact address is Vesilinnantie 5, 20500 Turku.

The exhibition is open from 18 March to 15 April 2025. The exhibition is open to all and free of charge.

SUSMAT (Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing) is a university profiling initiative funded by the Academy of Finland that combines technology, natural sciences and medical biomaterial science with data-driven digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

By advancing interdisciplinary research, SUSMAT aims to address global challenges in the fields of energy, health and well-being, and industrial production.
