The most extensive university ranking in the world, The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE), ranked the University of Turku among the top 400 universities.

– THE compares universities, taking several factors into account. It is great to see that the work we are doing for high-quality teaching and research and for the society has been acknowledged, says the Rector of the University of Turku Kalervo Väänänen.

THE evaluates the universities of the world using 13 different indicators and only includes the top 400 universities in its ranking list. Of the over 10,000 universities of the world, all multidisciplinary universities whose volume of publications and number of students are sufficient for comparison are taken into account.

Competition between universities has increased in recent years, but the University of Turku managed to improve its position by rising among the universities in the ranking list. The University of Turku is placed in the category 351–400.

THE is one of the best known university rankings in the world. The evaluation process is based on 13 different indicators that are reflected to the core missions of universities – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The points of comparison include study environment, the volume, income and reputation of research, research influence, innovation and the number of staff and students, for instance.
