Two CEAS affiliates, our Ph.D. Candidate Liisa Kauppila and former student Lauri Tammi were recognized as promising China experts and awarded for their contributions to Sino-Finnish relations at the Finland-China Culture Gala last Saturday at Alexander Theatre, Helsinki.

Liisa was the recipient of the award in the science and research category and Lauri was honoured to receive the award in the business category.  The committee emphasized the pioneering role of the two early career professionals in fields that are central to Finland's future: Sino-Finnish collaboration in Arctic science & research and the start-up industry. The Chinese Ambassador, Chen Li, and the Director for International Affairs of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, Jaana Palojärvi, presented the awards.

The other four awards went to the Wusheng Company (culture and arts), Rauno Saunio (language and literature), Veli-Matti Palomäki (teaching and pedagogic) and Annikki Arponen (life-long commitment to Sino-Finnish relations).

The Finland-China Art and Culture Association, Finnish China Alumni, Chinese Embassy in Finland, Finland-China Association and Aavi Technologies organized the gala. The event was also an official part of the Finland 100 anniversary celebrations.
