03.04.2017

U-Multirank evaluates universities in five sectors: Teaching & Learning, Research, Knowledge Transfer, International Orientation, and Regional Engagement. The ranking funded by the European Union aims to offer information about universities that differs from other university rankings.

This year, the University of Turku participated in the evaluation of the whole University and the Department of Information Technology (now part of the Department of Future Technologies) and Turku School of Economics were evaluated in the rankings by subject.

The evaluation of the U-Multirank is based on submitted information and a student survey both on the university and subject-level.

Strong Research University

In research, the University of Turku is placed in the top category in the number of research publications and post-doc positions. In addition, the number of international joint publications is first class.

– The results of U-Multirank are not a great surprise, as these strengths and targets for development have been highlighted, for example, in our own Research Assessment Excercise that was published last year, says Vice Rector Kalle-Antti Suominen.

Strong research is also especially evident in the results of Turku School of Economics where the number of publications and citations were on the highest possible level. Furthermore, the amount of external research income and research collaboration with industrial partners are at the top in Turku School of Economics.

Internationality on a Good Level

In Learning & Teaching, the University received high marks in the internationality of education: students participate in exchange programmes quite actively and there is a lot of international academic staff.

In subject-specific evaluations, internationality was highlighted particularly well in the number of graduated international doctors and international joint publications at the Department of Information Technology. Furthermore, the international orientation of the degree programmes was very good in Turku School of Economics.

The students of the Department of Information Technology and Turku School of Economics were very satisfied with the Library and IT Services as well as with the facilities. All in all, students were happy how the studies are organised.
