University of Turku Employs 50 New Doctoral Candidates

31.08.2015

There are fifty open vacancies for fixed-term doctoral candidate positions at the University of Turku from 1 January 2016 onwards. The call for applications is open from 1 September to 18 September. The application process is carried out electronically for the first time.

The University of Turku Graduate School (UTUGS) coordinates the doctoral training at the University of Turku and it consists of 16 doctoral programmes. All the doctoral candidates pursuing their degree in the University belong to one of the doctoral programmes, which cover all the disciplines of the University. You can apply for the doctoral candidate positions through the doctoral programmes.

– Despite the current economic situation of Finnish universities, the University of Turku opens a call for paid doctoral candidate positions in all the doctoral programmes this autumn as well. Even though the Graduate School will have to adjust its economy, the total number of doctoral candidates remains higher than it was before the reform of the Graduate School in 2013. This is a clear choice to promote the continuation of research and doctoral training: the University of Turku wants to support first stage researchers, says UTUGS Director, Professor Pirjo Nuutila.

In 2014, a record number of 186 doctors graduated from the University of Turku, which was the third largest number in Finnish universities for the third year in a row after the University of Helsinki and Aalto University.

The call for applications will open on 1 September at the UTUGS webpages.
