University of Turku Establishes Joint Double Degree Programme in Future Health & Technology in collaboration with Fudan University, China

The new Master’s Degree Programme in Future Health & Technology will start in Autumn 2019 at the University of Turku. The programme, leading to a double degree, is organised in close collaboration with Fudan University in Shanghai, China. Thereby, the University of Turku expands the ongoing cooperation in the area of Information and Communication technology also to Health Sciences and Technology.

The last week of November the programme teachers and staff as well as 6 students from the field of Nursing Science and Information and Communication Technology visited Fudan University in Shanghai in order to plan the future education collaboration. The joint Double Degree Master's Degree Programme in Future Health and Technology will start in Autumn 2019: the main study locations of the programme are the Fudan Campus in Shanghai and the Turku Campus. During the visit, one of the courses of the new programme, the Capstone Project, was also piloted with the students of partner universities.

The multidisciplinary programme is developed in close cooperation with four departments: Department of Nursing Science and Department of Future Technologies at the University of Turku, and the School of Nursing and the School of Information Science and Technology at Fudan University. The both universities aim to enrol 10 programme students annually. The objective is to pioneer international multidisciplinary education collaboration in health technology by connecting two important educational fields: health sciences and information technology.

Fudan University and the University of Turku signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2012. After many years of fruitful cooperation, the Extension of Cooperation Agreement on Joint Master´s Programme and Joint Doctoral Education in the area of Nursing Science between the University of Turku and Fudan University was signed on November 14, 2018.

The visit to Fudan University was very successful including visits to facilities of Fudan School of Nursing and School of Information Science and Technology, Fudan Nordic Centre, University Hospital, Community Health Care Center, and the elderly home. Next time the students and programme teachers will meet in March 2019 in Turku.
