University of Turku Improved Its Position in the QS World University Rankings

The University of Turku peaked at the position 205 in the international QS World University Rankings.

​QS World University Rankings is one of the most important and widespread international university rankings. During the last couple of years, the University of Turku has upgraded its position in the ranking. Two years ago the University of Turku was ranked number 224 and last year number 211.

QS Ranking measures the academic and employer reputation of universities. The ranking takes into consideration the amount of references to scientific publications, academic peer evaluation, employer evaluation, the ratio of students and teaching staff, and the relative amount of international staff and students.

Employers Appreciate the University of Turku

The University of Turku did especially well in the estimations of employers who had hired University of Turku graduates (position 178) and in the ratio of students and teaching staff (107).

Rector Kalervo Väänänen is pleased with the result published on 10 September.

–It is great that we were able to further improve our position among the best universities of the world. I am especially pleased that our graduates are highly valued among employers. All in all, we seem to be doing extremely well by all indicators.

The best three universities of the comparison were the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Harvard in the US, and the University of Cambridge in the UK. The University of Helsinki (78.) and Aalto University (222.) ranked highest among Finnish universities.
