University of Turku Moves Up in Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings placed the University of Turku among the top 350 universities in the world.

​The University of Turku's high-quality education and research have once again been highlighted in an international ranking. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which is the most extensive university ranking in the world, placed the University of Turku in the top 301 to 350 out of the 10,000 universities in the ranking.
Last year, the University of Turku managed to rise to the top 351 to 400. This year, despite increased competition, the University managed to improve its position in the ranking.

– The University's success in these different rankings is always good news, and this sort of visibility is important for recruiting excellent international students to our Master's and doctoral programmes. Despite the challenging economy, I believe that with good collaboration we can promote the University's international visibility in the future as well, says Vice Rector Kalle-Antti Suominen, who is responsible for research at the University of Turku.

The University of Turku was clearly most successful when it comes to research publications and internationality. In addition, the quality of its education was also ranked above the median.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings compares universities with various performance indicators. The ranking takes into consideration 13 different factors that are then compared to the teaching, research, knowledge transfer, as well as international outlook of the universities.

The University of Turku placed third in Finland, right after the University of Helsinki and Aalto University. The best 600 universities included nine Finnish universities and higher education institutions. The California Institute of Technology, Oxford University and Stanford University were ranked at the top of the list. The ranking lists the top 800 universities in the world.
