Wiley's open publishing quota is coming to an end, but free open publishing continues

04.12.2024

Researchers at the University of Turku can still publish their articles for free as open access in Wiley journals until the end of the year 2024, even though the article quota under the agreement with FinELib is ending. The university aims to cover the Article Processing Charges (APCs) for the remainder of the year.

The agreement between FinELib and Wiley, allowing researchers at the University of Turku to publish their articles openly without additional fees, will end at the end of 2024. Negotiations for a new agreement for 2025 are underway. The current agreement has a limited number of open articles, and the article quota is gradually running out.

Thanks to arrangements at the University of Turku, authors can still publish their articles open access in Wiley journals free of charge even after this. According to current calculations, the funds allocated for this purpose may last until the end of the year, but there is no absolute certainty about that.

The publishing process for authors will function in the same way as before, and the right to open publishing applies to the same journals as in the FinELib agreement. When a corresponding author states their affiliation as the University of Turku, they will not be charged an APC fee for the article published OA. Wiley will notify the library by email that the author has chosen open access publishing, and the author's affiliation will be verified by the library."

The list of journals included can be found on the FinELib website.
