Language and Communication Studies at the Open University

Finnish as a Foreign Language 

The Centre for Language and Communication Studies at The University of Turku offers Finnish as a foreign language studies from beginner's level (A1) to advanced (B1). The following courses are offered as open university education:

  • Let's Start! Introduction to Finnish Studies 1 ECTS

    An independent online course that prepares students to the Finnish studies. During the course, the student gets familiar with the Finnish language, its structure and ways of learning Finnish.
    Course unit methods: Independent work (27 h) on an online course 15.1. - 15.5.2026. 

    Study guide

    Registration: Quata 75 students. Students are selected in order of registration.

    > Registration 9.12.2025 - 15.3.2026 (See in English) Registration has ended. The student quota is full.

  • Finnish 1, 4 ECTS

    During the course, the student practices especially Finnish language communication skills. The recommendation is that Let's Start! Introduction to Finnish Language Studies 1 credit has been completed before the start of this course or is completed at the same time as the Finnish 1 course.
    Study methods: Online course 2.3. - 15.5.2026.
