Asanka - Master's student in Futures Studies

"Hello, I'm Asanka Wedeha Pathirana, a first-year Master's student at the University of Turku, pursuing a degree in Futures Studies. Originally from Sri Lanka, I came to Finland in 2022 and I have stayed in Tampere and Helsinki prior to moving to Turku.

Before beginning my Master's journey, I worked as a Management Officer for the Government of Sri Lanka nearly six years. Further I have worked with Finnish and Sri Lankan Lions Club collaborative projects for several years. Since arriving in Finland, I've developed a deep appreciation for the country's natural beauty and rich culture. Building friendships with both local Finns and fellow international students has been a rewarding experience, providing a sense of home away from home.

In my leisure time, I enjoy spending quality time with friends and cooking different types of food. I choose the University of Turku for its outstanding reputation in Finland, as well as its proximity to Stockholm, offering the opportunity for occasional trips to Sweden.

Now, I'm excited to embark on my academic journey in Futures Studies at the University of Turku and look forward to making the most of my time here while forming lasting connections. The university provides opportunities for all students to connect with each other in all occasions. 

Master's in Futures Studies is one of the few programmes taught in the world in its kind and if you want to explore your horizons and want to learn something new I would say this would fit your preference. If you are interested in studying in Finland, I could recommend University of Turku and Turku city since I find Turku is much more diverse and also shares a historical nature in comparison to other Cities in Finland.
