Meet Mostafa Schaat, a current Master's degree student at the University of Turku and an UTUambassador 2023-2024!
"Marhaba, and hello! My name is Mostafa, and I am a second year master’s student here at the University of Turku.
A year ago, I chose the biomedicine/drug discovery and development programme because it felt like a natural continuation of my previous training in clinical pharmaceutical sciences; I wanted to explore my interest in clinical drug research, but also basic research; and so far I have not been disappointed.
The Master’s programme in Drug Discovery and Development is diverse. It offers a serious introduction to drug discovery and development; and covers regulatory areas, experimental pharmacology, clinical trial design and much more. The programme is also a research programme, where students get to independently explore a wide range of research interests. At the moment, I am steadily working on my thesis while developing my research skills for a career in clinical pharmacology, and the best part, I am doing it in Turku, a hub for drug development with many big names in the drug development industry.

Turku is a hub for drug development, and the programme only enriches this hub by being a meeting point of international talent, and Finnish drug industry professionals.
The Drug Discovery and Development programme is a sweet spot between basic, and clinical drug development sciences. I would recommend the programme to those who wish to combine both areas of research, but also those who want to change from clinical to basic drug research and vice versa.
