UTUambassador Olha 4

Olha – Master's student in Education and Learning

Meet Olha Nikolaienko, a current Master's degree student at the University of Turku and an UTUambassador 2020-2022!

"I am Olha and I am a second-year Master’s student in Education and Learning. Studying at a Finnish university was something that I thought was unreachable for me. I came from Ukraine, where the educational system is not like in Finland but still I wanted to try my best and now, I am here, in one of the best universities in the world, in the university on Turku. And what is more, I am now also living in one of the most beautiful cities in Finland.

Studying here is one of the best things that happened to me. I feel that I can share my thoughts, that I am getting support from my peers and teachers and that is an amazing feeling.

Being an ambassador is an opportunity to meet new and wonderful people and to open new horizons of the student life and, of course, it is an opportunity to do something useful for the university. Being an ambassador is an honour for me.

Have some questions or doubts about studying at the University of Turku? I am here to help you!"

Olha's study experience:

Tell more about your programme and why you chose it!

Having my Bachelor’s degree in the English language philology and teaching, I was looking for a Master’s degree that offers the broader perspective in Education. And the EdLearn programme here in the University of Turku was a perfect fit.

What has been the most interesting course for you so far?

For me, the greatest part is that all the researches that I’ve been reading and studying made me reflect a lot on my previous experience both as a a teacher and as a student and also encouraged me to analyse how different aspects of that experience could be improved.

What are your future career plans?

Honestly, I would say that I find being a student here really enjoyable and interesting because the studying environment is super supportive and inspiring. Basically, that is the main reason why I see the PhD as the main career perspective for myself - I am extremely interested in researching how the education can be improved even more and I feel that this Master’s programme is giving me a great foundation for that.
