Meet Paula Estepa Pérez, a current master's student at the University of Turku and an UTUambassador 2025-2026!
"Hi! I’m Paula, and I’m currently studying for my Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Smart Systems. I’m from Spain, where I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After working for two years as an Application Engineer, I fell in love with programming, and I knew I wanted to combine my knowledge as a mechanical engineer with intelligent systems. This university gives me the flexibility to choose my own path, and that’s what brought me to the University of Turku.
Turku has started a new chapter in my life. The combination of nature and city makes living here fantastic. This allows me to explore all the nearby trails but also enjoy cozy cafes or events in the city. During my free time, you’ll find me cooking, playing board games with friends, or watching all kinds of videos about technology.
Now, I’m excited to begin my academic journey at the University of Turku and make the most of my time here while building lasting connections. The atmosphere at the university is very friendly, the professors and staff have always been happy to help with anything, and I’ve found many events to meet new people.

Paula's study experience
Before coming to Finland I’ve studied my bachelor’s degree in Spain.
After working for two years as an Application Engineer, I fell in love with programming, and I knew I wanted to combine my knowledge as a mechanical engineer with intelligent systems and this programme gives me the flexibility to do that.
So far what I love about this university is that it gives me the flexibility to choose my own path, and the proximity I can feel to the professors, which makes my learning very rewarding and productive.
Also, I love being part of this amazing international student life that I can find at the university.
Each course brings me closer to a clear vision of my future. Thanks to the subjects I’ve studied so far, I feel a closer connection to the field of autonomous vehicles, and I can see myself working at a company specializing in this area.
It’s exciting to imagine the possibilities this path could open up.
I love all the nature that Turku has to offer and I’m always up for a hike to clear my head. Also, during my free time, you’ll find me cooking, playing board games with friends, and on some occasion going horseback riding.
