Chinese is the mother tongue of about 1.5 billion people and the most spoken language in the world.
The Chinese language opens the gates to a country that has one of the world’s oldest cultures and in addition, China is one of the countries where many of the world’s largest companies can be found.
China has become an increasingly important trading partner for Finnish companies in this way creating jobs as more and more Finns will work in China in the future. The Finnish economy is becoming increasingly reliant on Chinese trade and so the Chinese language will be a necessary working language for Finnish companies in the future, and knowledge of the Chinese language and knowledge of culture may become a significant trump card in the international labour market.
The teaching of Chinese at the Centre for Language and Communication Studies at the University of Turku is intended for students from all faculties. Studies can be started from the beginning and continued on the basis of these or previous studies to continuation language and communication courses. In Chinese, you can complete a course of study, and study basic business courses at the School of Economics all the way to a minor, or take only one independent course.
The goal of Chinese language courses is to teach fluent basic language skills so students can cope with different situations in everyday life. Language skills offer students the opportunity to continue their studies in a Chinese subject and to go to China, for example, as an exchange student. The aim of the upper-level courses in particular is to maintain and deepen the language skills acquired and also to provide the language skills and cultural knowledge required in working life, which make it possible to follow the development of one's own field and operate in an international environment.
