Nearly 300 million people in the world speak Russian and more than 160 million use it as their mother tongue. In Finland, too, Russian-speakers make up a significant section of the population, as Russian is the third most spoken language in Finland after Finnish and Swedish. Proficiency in the Russian language and knowledge of Russia are of special importance in Finland. The Russian language opens the door to a rich and interesting culture as well as broadening your opportunities for employment.

At the Centre for Language and Communication Studies at the University of Turku, there is a wide range of opportunities for studying Russian. You can start the language from scratch and continue from the beginners' level courses or from your previous Russian language studies to continuation courses or take subject-specific language and communication courses. In addition to the language, Russian courses introduce you to the Russian way of life, culture and society. Students have the option of completing a study module in Russian.

Russian language skills and the diverse communication and interaction skills achieved through studying a language, as well as the courage and ability to interact with different cultures can open many doors in the world of work.
