Nearly 300 million people in the world speak Russian and more than 160 million use it as their mother tongue. In Finland, too, Russian-speakers are a significant group of the population, as Russian is the third most spoken language in Finland after Finnish and Swedish. Proficiency in the Russian language and knowledge of Russia are of special importance in Finland. The Russian language opens the door to a rich and interesting culture as well as good opportunities, e.g. business, as there are about 400 Finnish companies operating in Russia, most of them in the St. Petersburg area.

At the Centre for Language and Communication Studies at the University of Turku, you can study a wide range of Russian language from scratch and continue on the basis of these or previous studies to continuation and also subject-specific language and communication courses. In addition to the language, Russian courses introduce e.g. Russian way of life, culture and society. If you wish, you can complete a study module in Russian, and you can also study it as a minor at the School of Economics.

Russia is also a natural, but at the same time exotic, country for student exchange and internships for Finns. Russian language skills, diverse communication and interaction skills achieved in language studies, as well as the ability and courage to work between different cultures, open many gates in working life.
